Renowned Clinical Medicine Expert, Professor Dr. Mohammad Haq Nawaz, Passes Away at 77

Dallas: Professor Dr. Mohammad Haq Nawaz, a distinguished figure in the field of Clinical Medicine, passed away on May 24, 2024. Born on March 14, 1947, Professor Nawaz dedicated his career to advancing medical education and practice, particularly in the areas of Endocrinology and Pulmonology. He served as the Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine and was a Consultant Physician. His remarkable contributions included his tenure as Dean of Medical Schools and Chairman of Academic Councils, and his leadership as the President of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan.

Professor Nawaz was also deeply involved in international medical education, helping to establish reciprocity for medical qualifications between Pakistan and countries such as the USA, UK, Malaysia, UAE, and Australia. His work extended to roles with the World Health Organization and various medical and educational committees in Pakistan. An esteemed author, he enriched medical literature with clinical case reports, textbooks, and handbooks that have been instrumental for medical students globally.

Dr. Nawaz was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim, and his mother, Begum Shahnaz Ibrahim, to whom he credited every success.

Devoted husband to Dr. Gulnar Haq Nawaz, his spouse of 51 years, Professor Nawaz’s legacy extends to his family. He was a loving father to Mahrosh Nawaz (Art), Mehreen Nawaz, and Dr. M. Zaim Nawaz, and a cherished grandfather to Arian, Natalia, Zavair, Noor, Zara, Zoha, Zoeya, and Saad. His life’s work and his impact on both local and international medical communities will be remembered with profound respect and gratitude.

He was the brother of Professor Dr. Shahbaz Aman, Dr. Nusrat Jabeen, Dr. M. Shahnawaz (Seema), and Dr. Ghazala Naz Ibrahim (Bilal), and a proud grand uncle.

He was also the uncle to Dr. Amer Sulaiman (Dr. Mahvash), Dr. Sarwat Sulaiman (Dr. M. Ajmal), Dr. Muqaddas Aman, Dr. Zarmina Aman (Mr. Saqib), Dr. Hassan Bilal, Mr. Ahmed, Mr. Ali, Dr. Mahwash Aman (Mr. Rahman), Dr. Aater Sulaiman (Maryam), Dr. Zainab Shahnawaz (Dr. Usman), and Dr. Afeefa Shahnawaz (Dr. Razi).

Please say a prayer marking this solemn occasion to honor his memory and celebrate his vast contributions to academia and medicine, but most of all, his love for people, life, and family. He is loved and dearly missed.
