5-year-old girl hurt by glass during gunfire that stemmed from fight in SW Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department is investigating a shooting outside an event in southwest Houston that injured a 5-year-old girl.

The incident occurred around midnight at Amy’s Party Hall, located in the 7600 block of Sanford Road. Investigators reported that people were outside drinking and mingling in the parking lot of the strip mall when a disturbance between two parties escalated into gunfire.

Initially, Houston police believed the girl had been hit by gunfire, but a later update on Sunday confirmed she was injured by shattered glass during the shooting. She was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

“In the chaos, many people fled the scene, calling 911 on their own, which caused some confusion for our responding officers. They arrived within two minutes and even attempted to track down some suspect vehicles that turned out to be people fleeing,” said Lt. T. Riley.

HPD currently has limited information about the suspects. Investigators with the Major Assault Unit will review surveillance video for leads. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS (8477).
