Two children among 4 killed in rural wrong-way crash, teacher injured

A tragic wrong-way crash in Parker County on Sunday resulted in the loss of four lives, including two 9-year-old girls, leaving a teacher as the sole survivor, according to the Texas DPS.

The collision, which occurred around 2:18 p.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 51 just south of Friendship Road, involved a Ford F-150 traveling north and a Subaru Legacy that crossed into oncoming traffic, striking the truck head-on.

The driver of the Legacy, identified as 29-year-old Kathryn Lain from Boyd, was pronounced dead at the scene. Among the victims in the truck were 66-year-old Gregory Daniel Schilb and two 9-year-old girls.

The driver of the pickup, 43-year-old Amber Rae Reed of Springtown, sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.

Springtown ISD Superintendent Shane Strickland expressed deep sorrow in a statement, revealing that the two young girls were fourth graders at Goshen Creek Elementary School, where Reed also taught.

“Our hearts ache for the families of those we lost, for our entire district, and for our community as a whole,” Strickland stated. He also mentioned that Reed is in stable condition but faces a long recovery.

Grief counselors will be available at the school’s library on Tuesday morning, offering support to those affected by the tragedy.

The crash remains under investigation, and the DPS has not yet determined the cause of Lain’s lane deviation. Further details have not been provided at this time.
