Downtown Houston hit with more glass falling from windows of high-rise buildings

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Downtown Houston streets are being blocked off again as more glass falls from high-rise buildings previously damaged by a deadly storm just over a week ago.

The area was severely impacted when a deadly windstorm swept through on Thursday, May 16, causing countless high-rise windows to shatter and scattering debris across the roads below.

Before repairs could be completed, Houston was hit once more with high winds, sending glass back onto the streets far below.

Mycah Hatfield, who covered both storms, stood on the corner of Milam and Rusk near the Pennzoil building on Tuesday, where shards of broken glass littered the sidewalk. Across the street, the Bank of America building also had significant damage. Police closed the street to traffic during the afternoon rush hour, causing backups for commuters.

By 6 p.m., police confirmed that Milam is closed from Texas to Rusk for an unknown duration.

Workers swiftly began repairs and boarding up windows, but there is still no estimate on when all the windows will be fixed.
