Westfield HS product ready to tackle next chapter in life after Naval Academy graduation

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Marcus Moore Jr., a former Westfield Mustangs defensive back known to his family and friends as “Tiki,” has always demonstrated leadership. A star both on the field and in the classroom, he earned All-District and All-Academic honors for two consecutive years. These achievements led him to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

“I was focused on my future at a young age,” Moore Jr. said. “I wasn’t just thinking about the next four years of football but the next forty years of my life and how to set that up now.”

Moore Jr.’s parents, Kashawana and Marcus Sr., instilled in him the values of character, leadership, and hard work, which were further honed at the Naval Academy.

“Even before I attended the academy, my work ethic was high,” he said. “I don’t see hard work as a burden but as an opportunity to become a better person.”

Last week, Moore Jr. graduated from the Naval Academy, earning his commission as an ensign.

“Leadership, character development, time management, and humility are all emphasized at the Academy,” he noted.

Now home, Moore Jr. will soon return to train for his future role in surface warfare in Norfolk, Virginia.

“I’ve changed so much over these last four years,” he reflected. “Seeing my growth in character and leadership, I wouldn’t change my decision to attend the Academy for anything. I’m proud to be reaping the benefits of four years of hard work.”
