Dallas, Kaufman counties extend voting hours Tuesday due to weather, power outages

Due to severe weather conditions and widespread power outages, voters in two North Texas counties will have extended time to cast their ballots in Tuesday’s primary runoff.

In Dallas County, polling hours have been extended until 9 p.m. following disruptions caused by the loss of power at numerous polling locations during severe thunderstorms. County Judge Clay Jenkins declared a disaster in the county due to the extent of the power outages, with 103 polling sites affected initially. However, efforts to restore power led to the reopening of 19 locations, resulting in a total of 199 operational voting centers. Given Dallas County’s participation in the Countywide Polling Place Program, voters have the flexibility to cast their ballots at any available polling location.

Similarly, in Kaufman County, voting hours have been extended until 8 p.m. due to damage and delays incurred during the storms.

Meanwhile, polling locations in Denton, Collin, Rockwall, and Tarrant counties will maintain their regular closing time at 7 p.m.
