Irving neighbors help one another after fallen trees block roads, land on homes

It’s the type of alarming wake-up call nobody hopes for. The sound of trees snapping, splintering, and crashing onto rooftops echoed through the neighborhood.

Andrea Duran recalled the tense moment when a tree landed near her room during the storm, prompting her family to seek shelter in the center of the house. Her father bravely ascended the roof amidst the raging storm, attempting to cover the hole left by the fallen tree with a tarp.

“We were fortunate this time,” Andrea remarked, reflecting on their narrow escape.

But could their stroke of luck soon fade? Following the rainfall, fierce winds swept through the area, causing leaves to swirl and branches to crack under the pressure. One house teetered on the edge of disaster as a massive limb precariously dangled over its roof. Throughout the day, homeowners wielded chainsaws, tirelessly clearing away fallen trees from their properties.

In the midst of the cleanup efforts, Ron Knott’s residence was nearly obscured by the large branches littering his front yard. Undeterred, he focused his efforts on clearing the road to ensure smooth passage for vehicles and aiding neighbors in tidying their yards.

When asked about his motivation, Knott expressed a simple philosophy: “If nobody’s doing anything, why not lend a hand? This is my neighborhood, and I believe in looking out for my neighbors.”
