10-year-old girl survives apparent murder-suicide shooting that killed mother in Spring, HCSO says

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) — A tragic shooting at a Spring-area apartment complex left two adults dead and critically injured a 10-year-old girl, the only survivor. Authorities are describing the incident as a murder-suicide.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies responded to The Pierpont apartments in the 23700 block of Springwoods Village Parkway near the Hardy Toll Road around 5 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 33-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man, and a 10-year-old child who had all been shot. The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while the child was airlifted to the hospital via Life Flight.

The Spring Fire Department shared a video on social media showing the medical helicopter departing from the scene.

Investigators believe that the girl’s mother was arguing with her boyfriend when he shot her and then apparently turned the gun on himself. It is unclear how the child was shot in the stomach, but investigators suggest she may have been caught in the crossfire.

Crime scene reconstruction experts are working to determine the exact sequence of events during the shooting.

When asked if there was a history of domestic violence between the couple, the sergeant on the scene stated he was unsure but confirmed it would be part of the investigation.
