Woman dies after rear-ending vehicle at red light, causes multi-vehicle crash in SW Houston: HPD

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A fatal four-vehicle crash in southwest Houston on Friday resulted in the death of one woman and left five others hospitalized.

The Houston Police Department reported that the crash occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m. on the 10900 block of South Sam Houston Parkway West service road.

According to police, the incident began when a man driving a silver Honda Accord was traveling westbound on the 9100 block of West Airport Boulevard. As he passed through the intersection with South Sam Houston Parkway West on a red light, another driver in a silver Hyundai Accent failed to control her speed, allegedly ran a red light, and struck the rear of the Honda Accord.

The collision caused the Honda to impact a green Toyota Camry, which was traveling eastbound on West Airport Boulevard and turning left onto the service road. The force of the impact pushed the Toyota across the intersection, where it then collided with a white Mack van that was also turning left.

The female driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The male driver of the Honda and three passengers, including two juveniles and a woman, were transported to a hospital where they were stabilized. The male driver of the Toyota was also taken to a hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Mack van remained at the scene and was uninjured.

The deadly crash is currently under investigation.
