City of Dallas opening multi-agency resource center to help storm damage victims

Truett Elementary School in East Dallas will host a multi-agency resource center this weekend, offering assistance to Dallas residents affected by the recent storms.

The widespread need for aid is evident throughout the area, with many streets cluttered with piles of tree limbs.

Residents like Susanna Abraham, a resident of East Dallas, are facing challenges in the aftermath of the storm. Abraham mentioned, “We had some trees down in the back.”

To address the needs of individuals like Abraham, the city of Dallas, in collaboration with Dallas ISD, will establish a multi-agency resource center at George W. Truett Elementary on Inadale Avenue. This center will provide information and access to various services, including debris cleanup assistance, food and water aid, and disaster case management.

John Hall, a spokesperson for Texans on Mission, emphasized the convenience of this centralized resource hub, stating, “This is a one-stop spot where you can get most of your needs met with trusted partners that have been vetted not only by the city but by other agencies that have been doing it for a long time.”

Among the agencies participating, Texans on Mission will offer free chainsaw services to assist residents with fallen trees and large limbs. Hall explained, “If a tree has fallen on your house…Our volunteer team will cut them down, put them on the curb, and let the city take care of all free of charge.”

The multi-agency resource center brings together both government and nonprofit organizations, providing a comprehensive support system for those seeking assistance. Abraham expressed gratitude for this consolidated effort, noting, “Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to hit all the different places…It’s definitely helpful.”

The resource center will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2.
