Oncor says more drenching storms are slowing power restoration into the weekend

Oncor reports that another round of storms overnight Thursday into Friday morning caused additional power outages, further complicating the ongoing restoration efforts that have been underway since last weekend.

Initially, Oncor had hoped to restore most of the power in North Texas by Friday, with some areas expected to remain without power until Saturday due to the severity of the damage. However, the storms on Thursday slowed down the restoration process as crews had to take additional safety precautions in response to heavy rain, wind, and lightning.

The challenging weather conditions, including flooding in some areas, made it difficult for repair crews to access the locations needing attention. Despite these challenges, Oncor’s workforce of about 12,000 personnel, including employees, contractors, and partners, continues to work tirelessly around the clock to restore power to customers across North Texas.

While significant progress has been made in restoring power to affected areas, there are still approximately 50,000 customers without power, including residents in hard-hit neighborhoods like Eastwood Hills in Dallas.

Residents like Britt Lopez and Jimmy Hughes expressed frustration over the lack of information about the cause of their outages and the prolonged duration without electricity, especially concerning for vulnerable individuals like Hughes’ elderly mother.

Oncor advises customers still without power to inspect their equipment for any damage and to stay away from downed power lines, as they can pose serious safety hazards. Customers can report power outages or check the status of outages through various channels, including the MyOncor app, text messaging, or by calling Oncor’s customer service line.
