Power outages in Dallas-Fort Worth extend into fifth day following storms

More than half a million people remain without power five days after severe storms hit North Texas.

Line crews from across the country have been working around the clock to restore electricity for most, but over 30,000 residents in Dallas County are still without power as temperatures rise.

In Eastwood Hills, a city crew finally clearing debris was a long-awaited and welcome sight for neighbors who lost electricity early Tuesday morning.

“It seemed like the power company was saying the city had to do something, and the city would say the power company had to do something, and nothing was actually being done until today. We are just really, really happy that they got the trees off the line,” said Lauren Cervantes.

By Saturday afternoon, downed trees and power poles were still blocking Ripplewood Drive and Glenmont Lane, leaving neighbors wondering when their power would be restored and how Oncor is prioritizing its efforts.

“I think there should be a standard protocol for keeping residents informed, and that’s just not happening. It’s not happening to the degree that would be helpful,” said Wade Crowder.

“There’s no estimate. It was supposed to be Friday, and now it’s today, and I still have no power,” said David Granger.

Granger, who lives nearby in Casa View Heights, is staying home despite rising temperatures because of his dog.

“It’s sticky. It smells. Yeah, it’s not fun. I threw away all of my food last night,” he said.

Dallas County reported that 32,000 residents were without power on Saturday, a number that increased slightly after another round of storms moved through.

On Friday, Oncor stated that work would continue through the weekend, with many of the hardest-hit areas requiring ‘complex and time-consuming’ repairs.
