Arlington woman, 62, killed by fallen tree limb during Tuesday’s severe storm

Arlington Police reported that a 62-year-old woman, Lucia Gonzalez Layman, was killed when a tree branch snapped and struck her on the head as she tried to clean up debris from a devastating storm in late May.

Layman was among many North Texas residents whose homes were affected by the severe storm that hit the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Officers responded to a home in the 5900 block of Flintshire Court on Tuesday, May 28, after a man called 911, reporting that a tree had fallen on his girlfriend’s head.

Upon arrival, family members informed the police that Layman and her boyfriend were attempting to trim a fallen tree on their roof. While cutting the tree, one of the still-attached limbs snapped and fell directly on Layman’s head, causing her to collapse. It is unclear if she died instantly, but medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The police department stated that her death appeared to be a tragic accident with no signs of foul play.

A few days earlier, a 20-year-old man was electrocuted when his chainsaw hit a power line while he was doing tree work.
