$500K bond set for man accused of killing teen in North Richland Hills hit-and-run crash

A man has been apprehended by North Richland Hills Police in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy on a highway in mid-May.

Fernando Peralta-Berrios, aged 32, faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and collision involving personal injury or death stemming from the fatal crash that occurred on Thursday, May 16.

According to authorities, officers responded to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian in the eastbound lane of the 8600 block of Airport Freeway around 8:47 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a male victim, later identified as 16-year-old Luis Luna from Irving, by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Luna was transported to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. His family expressed their sentiments to NBC 5 following news of the arrest.

“I guess it brings some type of peace but not complete. It won’t bring him back,” said Luna’s cousin, Leo Galvan.

Detectives, aided by Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission investigators, were able to identify Peralta-Berrios as the suspect and subsequently issued warrants for his arrest.

Peralta-Berrios was apprehended on Monday, June 3, and booked at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on second-degree felony charges. His bond for each charge was set at $250,000.
