North Texas celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month

Pride Month commenced across North Texas this past weekend, marking a month-long celebration of inclusion and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Described as both a commemoration and a purposeful party, Pride Month offers individuals a chance to embrace their identity and celebrate their community.

Vincent DeLuna, a representative from Dallas Pride, expressed hopes that participants would recognize the event as a space where they can feel comfortable being themselves. He emphasized the acceptance and readiness of the LGBTQ+ community to welcome individuals whenever they are ready to join. DeLuna stressed the message of hope, stating that things improve with time.

The festivities began with the annual Pride festival and parade at Dallas Fair Park, providing an opportunity for thousands to come together in solidarity. Actor and activist Billy Porter served as the honorary grand marshal of the parade, delivering a powerful message of resilience and love.

Porter, reflecting on his own journey, highlighted the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, particularly during the AIDS crisis. Despite adversity, he emphasized the enduring power of love and the victory it ultimately brings.
