Plano patching dozens of potholes after soaking rains follow drought

Plano officials have reported receiving over two dozen complaints about potholes since last week, and with the transition from rain to heat, they anticipate more issues arising.

According to Josh Schultz, streets superintendent for the city of Plano, crews have been working extensively to address the repairs needed due to asphalt erosion during recent storms.

“The soil underneath has shrunk during the droughts we’ve experienced in the last couple of years, creating hollow spaces beneath the surface. This has led to the formation of potholes, which were previously patched up with asphalt but washed out during storms,” Schultz explained.

Upon receiving multiple requests to repair patch jobs, the city plans to implement a more permanent solution. In the meantime, drivers who encounter potholes resulting in blowouts can file a claim with the city’s risk management department.

Residents can report potholes through the city’s Fix It Plano app or via their website.
