Prosper Police Department’s massive emergency vehicle turns heads

The Prosper Police Department has caught attention with the introduction of a substantial emergency rescue vehicle.

On June 1, the police department shared a photo of the armored personnel carrier on its Facebook page, inviting the public to come and see it.

The post sparked inquiries, to which the police department responded. Firstly, many asked about the cost. The department clarified that the $689,000 armored vehicle was acquired through the Federal 1033 program, meaning it came at no expense to taxpayers. While some readers noted that the federal funding ultimately originates from taxpayers, the vehicle itself incurred no direct cost to the town.

The police department highlighted the versatility of the vehicle, emphasizing its suitability for various scenarios such as high-water rescues, active shooter situations, hostage rescues, and other critical incidents. They underscored that the vehicle enhances the safety of both officers and the community, particularly during emergencies like recent floods.

Furthermore, the department emphasized the potential for the vehicle to aid neighboring communities in Collin County, contributing to regional safety efforts and community engagement.

The department confirmed that the vehicle’s use will continue under an annual renewal agreement.
