LBJ Hospital put on lockdown after shooter chases truck into ER drop-off following crash, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An early morning crash and subsequent chase led to a lockdown at LBJ Hospital and left a man critically injured, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident began just after 1 a.m. near the intersection of Homestead Road and the 610 Loop, about four miles from the hospital.

HPD reports that a silver or gray sedan was rear-ended by a pickup truck, whose driver then fled the scene. The driver of the sedan pursued the truck.

The truck driver eventually stopped at a gas station in the 9700 block of Homestead, where family members of the truck driver arrived, resulting in a large altercation.

During the confrontation, someone from the sedan pulled out a weapon and opened fire, hitting the truck’s passenger in the head, police said. No one from the pickup truck reportedly returned fire.

The truck’s driver then headed to LBJ Hospital, with the sedan following closely behind. The commotion at the hospital’s ER drop-off area led security to briefly place the hospital on lockdown to assess the situation. The lockdown was lifted at 2:30 a.m.

The gunshot victim was transferred to another hospital and is in critical condition.

The driver of the sedan escaped, and the car sustained significant damage to its rear end. An investigation is currently underway.
