Dallas pastor gets 35 years in prison for stealing properties from 3 other churches

A Dallas pastor leading a small congregation without a physical place of worship has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison for the theft of real estate from three churches.

Following a trial, Whitney Foster, 56, was found guilty by a jury of property theft exceeding $300,000. Foster unlawfully acquired properties belonging to First Christian Church in Lancaster, Canada Drive Church in Dallas, and Nineveh in Dallas.

Prosecutors revealed that Foster, who had previous convictions for identity theft and arson, falsified deeds for the three churches. He misrepresented the victim churches’ leadership and designated his own church under his name as the recipient.

The stolen properties totaled over $800,000, as per the district attorney’s office.

Two of the churches remain under Foster’s or his church’s ownership, with his congregation still utilizing one of them. Legal complications persist for the third church due to Foster’s actions.

Lead Prosecutor Phillip Clark emphasized the significance of property ownership in society, highlighting its role in providing security, housing, and economic support. He described deed fraud as a form of theft and fraud with profound repercussions, commending the jury for holding the defendant accountable.

During the trial, evidence of seven additional fraudulent deeds, sharing similar characteristics to the charged deeds, was presented to the jury.

The DA’s office recommended homeowners in Dallas County sign up for a Deed Fraud Alert Service, which notifies them via email whenever a document is filed on their property. This proactive measure enables property owners to swiftly address any fraudulent activity. Similar services may be available in other counties, accessible through the County Clerk’s website.
