1 dead, 1 detained after officers called to stabbing in SW Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police responding to a stabbing call in southwest Houston discovered one person dead, officials reported on Friday evening.

First responders from the Houston police and fire departments arrived at the 6700 block of Hillcroft Avenue near Bellaire Boulevard, following a report of a “cutting” incident outside a Walgreens.

According to the Houston Police Department, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another individual, who may be the suspect, was taken into custody.

Police explained that an altercation between two men led to one fatally stabbing the other. The motive for the fight remains unknown.

This location lies on the border of the Sharpstown and Gulfton neighborhoods.

Neighborhood Safety Tracker indicates five homicides have occurred in this area over the past 12 months, which includes the Houston Baptist University area and Maplewood West, home to approximately 27,000 residents.

The area recorded seven homicides in 2020, six in 2021, six in 2022, and three in 2023.
