1 dead, 1 detained after officers called to stabbing in SW Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Officers responding to a stabbing call in southwest Houston on Friday evening found one person dead, according to police.

The incident occurred in the 6700 block of Hillcroft Avenue near Bellaire Boulevard, outside a Walgreens. Houston’s police and fire departments reported that first responders arrived on the scene regarding a reported “cutting.”

The Houston Police Department stated that a 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and another individual, who may be the suspect, was detained.

Police revealed that an altercation between two men led to one fatally stabbing the other. The motive behind the fight is still unknown.

This location is at the boundary of the Sharpstown and Gulfton neighborhoods. According to Neighborhood Safety Tracker, there have been five homicides in the area over the past 12 months, including the Houston Baptist University area and Maplewood West, home to an estimated 27,000 people.

In recent years, seven homicides were recorded in 2020, six in 2021, six in 2022, and three in 2023.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed yet.
