Man ejected, killed after fleeing hit-and-run crash in Arlington

The fatal collision occurred on Friday, June 14th, in the 1200 block of W. Division Street in Arlington.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Arlington Police were called to the scene following reports of a crash involving a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze CZT and a Ford bus.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Cruze, an adult man, was observed speeding westbound along Division Street and running a red light at the intersection with N. Davis Drive.

Allegedly, the man was swerving and crossed into the eastbound lanes of Division Street, where he collided with the bus.

Police indicated that the sedan driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities have not yet been able to identify him.

During their investigation, Arlington Police discovered that the Cruze had been involved in another collision just minutes earlier in the 600 block of W. Division Street.

A woman driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck reported that she had stopped at a stoplight at the intersection of Division and Cooper Streets when the Cruze rear-ended her. Both drivers pulled over to exchange information, but the woman became concerned that the man might have been intoxicated. She informed him that she was calling the police.

At that point, the Cruze driver returned to his vehicle and fled the scene. The woman attempted to follow him and arrived at the location of the subsequent crash, according to police.

The driver of the Ford bus was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and is expected to recover.

Arlington Police confirmed finding containers of alcohol inside the Cruze.

The identity of the deceased driver will be released once he has been positively identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, and his next of kin have been notified.
