Watch out for high water on these Houston-area roads

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Drivers, keep an eye on high-water locations on Houston-area roads and drive safely as rain comes down in southeast Texas.

There is a travel advisory for the coastal areas of Matagorda County. The predicted high tides, strong east winds, and higher-than-normal waves have caused flooding in low-lying areas. Officials urge caution when driving close to the coast.

There are several road closures due to the flooding.

In the Matagorda area:

FM 2031 at the north side of the intercoastal waterway is closed, and reports show that water is covering the road.

CR 259 South Gulf Road at Boggy Creek is closed.

CR 230 has water covering the road, but still passable.

In the Sargent area:

CR 201 and Gulfview

CR 238 from FM 457 to the West side mooring station

In Palacios:

South Bay Shore is closed from St Hwy Business 35 to Koonce Road

Seabrook officials are reporting that Todville Road is currently closed between Hammer and Main Street due to water over the road.

TxDOT said that while SH-87 on Bolivar is passable, crews are working to clear the roadway of sand and debris.

TxDOT temporarily suspended Galveston Ferry service due to high tides, but services have resumed Wednesday evening.

High water was also reported along I-10 East and the westbound frontage road at Monmouth. The exit has been closed, according to TxDOT.

Remember, if you come across high water, don’t attempt to drive through it. Turn around, don’t drown.
