Person of interest wanted in shooting death of man and woman near Buffalo Bayou Trail, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department has released surveillance photos of a person of interest in connection with the deadly shooting in downtown Houston on June 2.

Authorities are looking to question a Black man with a goatee and possible beard, seen carrying a small, dark bag or fanny pack. The photos, shared by HPD, aim to identify this individual.

The incident occurred in the 600 block of Franklin Street, where officers found two victims. The body of 38-year-old Richard Nugent was discovered on the sidewalk near Buffalo Bayou Trail. During the search for witnesses, officers also found 66-year-old RJ Lewis lying on a stairwell at the intersection of Congress and Smith Streets. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

Police are still trying to determine a motive and do not have a suspect description at this time.
