Nonprofit glass art studio in Fort Worth says funding shortfall could close doors

SiNaCa Studios, a glass-making art studio located in Fort Worth’s Near Southside Cultural Arts District, is facing a precarious future. This nonprofit, which opened 14 years ago, is grappling with a $75,000 funding shortfall.

“It’s expensive, you know. This is a tough industry,” said SiNaCa Executive Director Clifton Crofford. “We’ve been trailblazing a challenging path from the beginning.”

Crofford attributed the studio’s financial difficulties to the impacts of the pandemic and the current economic climate.

“We are grateful for the support we’ve received over the years. I want to thank everyone who has participated or donated,” Crofford said. “But right now, if we don’t reach this goal, SiNaCa Studios will close.”

Named after the chemical elements of glass, SiNaCa Studios serves as both a teaching space and a haven for young and emerging glass artists.

“We are very unique,” Crofford noted. “SiNaCa Studios is the only nonprofit glass arts studio within hundreds of miles that provides access to everyone.”

In response to the financial crisis, SiNaCa has launched the ‘Glassroots Revival’ fundraising campaign to bridge the $75,000 gap.

“Art is important, and combining it with an important material like glass to create art is incredibly unique,” Crofford said. “It’s essential that we find the support to continue this passion and mission.”

To aid their fundraising efforts, the studio will host an Ice Cream Social benefit on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 1013 West Magnolia Ave. in Fort Worth. Donations can also be made through their GoFundMe page.
