Massive crowds bring high energy to 2024 Pride Houston Celebration

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Hundreds of thousands of revelers filled downtown Houston on Saturday to celebrate the 46th annual Pride Houston event, cheering and celebrating in a show of diversity, unity, and inclusivity.

The celebration, which honors the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community, featured a vibrant festival outside Houston City Hall. Gates opened at noon, welcoming hundreds of attendees eager to visit vendors and enjoy performances by artists like CMA alumni K. Michelle and Brooke Eden, and “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta.

The highlight of the day was the parade, which drew large crowds throughout the afternoon and evening. While the exact number of attendees has yet to be confirmed, previous years have seen up to 850,000 people participate.

Houston’s first Gay Pride Parade was held in 1979, marking the 10th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn raid in New York. Over the years, Pride events have played a significant role in advancing acceptance and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride Houston is now the third-largest Pride event in the United States and ranks among the top 20 globally. It is also Houston’s second-largest annual event, surpassed only by RodeoHouston.
