81-year-old man fatally struck by truck in McDonald’s parking lot: Lewisville police

An investigation is underway after an 81-year-old man was tragically killed when struck by a vehicle as he exited a fast-food restaurant on Saturday morning.

At approximately 9:25 a.m. on June 29, officers responded to a McDonald’s located on the 700 block of Main Street following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police discovered that the driver of a red Toyota truck had been backing out of a parking spot when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and struck a man walking out of the building.

The victim, identified as 81-year-old George Stepp, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to Medical City Lewisville Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Lewisville Police are investigating whether a possible medical issue caused the driver to reverse so abruptly. There is no word yet on whether criminal charges will be filed against the Toyota driver. The restaurant was closed while police conducted their investigation.
