Man who committed aggravated assault, holding knife shot and killed, Dallas Police say

Dallas Police responded to a disturbance call at 5850 Beltline Road around 6:45 p.m. on Friday. According to their preliminary investigation, a man had committed aggravated assault involving family violence with a knife.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman inside a tent and a man holding a knife beside the tent in a wooded area behind an apartment complex. Despite orders to drop the knife, the man advanced towards the officers, prompting them to shoot him. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was also hospitalized for non-serious injuries, and no officers were injured during the incident.

NBC 5 reported that Animal Services arrived at the scene, but Dallas Police did not comment on any animal involvement.

The investigation is ongoing, and Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia is expected to hold a press conference on Monday to release body camera footage of the incident.
