Dad faces multiple charges after allegedly taking 4-year-old on high-speed chase through car wash

A man in Harris County, Texas, is facing multiple charges after leading deputies on a short but chaotic pursuit with his 4-year-old child.

On Monday, deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over 23-year-old Carrington McKnight due to an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault. Investigators reported that McKnight sped away and attempted to evade capture by driving through Rich’s Car Wash on Barker Cypress.

When his car became stuck on the tracks, McKnight abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, carrying his 4-year-old son. Deputies noted that the child had been seen unrestrained in the backseat of the car earlier.

Witnesses reported seeing McKnight run into traffic, trying to open the doors of moving cars before jumping into the bed of a pickup truck. Deputies eventually subdued him using a Taser.

The outstanding aggravated assault warrant originated from a June 27 incident in which McKnight was accused of brandishing a gun at two 16-year-old boys. One of the teens, identified as Azeal, recounted playing with Orby gel guns at Barker Crossings HOA Park when McKnight approached them with his son.

“He asked why we had guns at the park with kids around and then pulled a real gun on us,” Azeal said. “He told us to leave or we would be shot with something real.”

At the time of the incident, McKnight was already on probation for two prior aggravated assaults. He now faces additional charges of evading arrest and endangering a child, along with the new aggravated assault charge.
