HPD identifies 75-year-old woman accused of shooting neighbor to death during altercation

Authorities have identified and charged a woman accused of fatally shooting her neighbor during an altercation last week in Houston, Texas.

The Houston Police Department announced that 75-year-old Barbara Jean Blue is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the June 27 shooting of Daryl Evans.

Police responded to a shooting outside a home in the 15700 block of Baybriar Drive at around 7:30 p.m. that evening.

“The last thing I heard him say was, ‘Why do you hate me so much? I never did anything. I’ve only been good to you,’ and then she shot him three times, ‘bop, bop, bop,'” recounted Tammy Evans, Daryl Evans’ wife.

Officers found 66-year-old Daryl Evans unresponsive and with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the street. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

Tammy Evans believes her husband might still be alive had Blue allowed her to provide aid. Instead, Blue reportedly turned the gun on her. “I was going back and forth trying to get to him, and my husband was going like this with his arm, ‘Go back, Tammy, she’s going to shoot you,'” Tammy Evans recalled.

Investigators discovered that an argument had occurred between Daryl Evans and Blue before she shot him. Neighbors described Blue as a bully who often complained about noise, kids playing in the street, and where Daryl Evans parked his cars.

“She always wanted to control the neighborhood,” said neighbor Andrian Thompson. Thompson, who had grown close to Daryl Evans since moving in a year ago, noted the impact of the loss on the community, stating, “It is going to be a sad day in the neighborhood for a while because everyone always came to Daryl’s house.”

Blue was arrested at the scene and charged in connection with the shooting. Officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, and charges against Blue may be upgraded.

“She took my husband from me, my best friend,” said Tammy Evans.
