City of Arlington, Texas Rangers prepare to host 2024 MLB All-Star Game in two weeks

Arlington, Texas, and the Texas Rangers are gearing up to host thousands of baseball fans at Globe Life Field for the 2024 MLB All-Star week and the MLB All-Star Game.

“It’s really exciting for everyone in our organization to bring the greatest players in the world to Globe Life Field in celebration of the great game of baseball,” said Rob Matwick, the Texas Rangers’ executive vice president of business operations.

The week-long event will be centered in and around the Entertainment District. Crews are currently constructing the Capital One All-Star Village, which will complement All-Star events taking place inside Choctaw Stadium and the Esports Arlington + Expo Center.

“We’re transforming Choctaw Stadium, our North Lawn, and the Esports stadium into a 650,000 square foot celebration festival of baseball for four days. There’s something for everyone there,” Matwick added.

From July 12 to July 16, large crowds are expected daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., necessitating significant road closures. According to city officials, the Road to Six Flags to Stadium Drive up to Nolan Ryan Expressway will be closed for the entirety of the week due to the All-Star Village.

“We’ll also have a major closure on Randol Mill Road from Ballpark Way to Stadium Drive for the red carpet event from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. next Tuesday,” said Keith Brooks, the City of Arlington Public Works director.

A traffic management center will monitor traffic flow in real-time and adjust signals as needed. Reversible lanes will be set up on Division St. and Collins St. to facilitate traffic movement.

Arlington Police Deputy Chief Leo Daniels acknowledged the expected traffic challenges, noting preparations based on insights gained from the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle.

“We’re accustomed to managing large-scale events, but each event has its unique challenges. We’re implementing lessons learned from Seattle to enhance our planning,” Daniels stated.

To alleviate parking concerns, the Texas Rangers will utilize 13,000 parking spaces at Globe Life Field and an additional 5,000 to 6,000 spots from AT&T Stadium and local businesses. Parking prices will range from $30 to $60 depending on location.

With a high volume of out-of-town visitors expected, organizers anticipate a robust presence of rideshare services. Designated rideshare drop-off and pick-up points will be established near Ballpark Way and Chapman Cutoff to minimize congestion in the entertainment district.

Given the summer heat, organizers are prepared with cooling stations and hydration stations at Choctaw, the All-Star Village, and the Esports Stadium.

“We’ll have vendors offering water around the ballpark and extra personnel ensuring attendee comfort,” noted Mike Healy, executive vice president of venue operations & guest experience for the Texas Rangers.

The MLB All-Star week kicks off on July 12 and concludes with the All-Star Game on July 16 at 7:00 p.m.
