Residents concerned after homicide at SW Houston taco truck: ‘Area is going in a negative way’

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A fatal shooting outside a busy taco truck in southwest Houston has sparked concerns among local residents.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the taco truck located on Richmond near Dunvale. According to the Houston Police Department, a 31-year-old man was shot and killed. The victim’s identity has not been released, and the suspect is described only as an unknown Black male.

Surveillance video obtained by shows a white car entering the parking lot off Richmond just before the shooting. The car stops, and then someone exits and starts firing at the victim. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown.

The taco truck was busy at the time, which is common according to locals. Tiera Johnson, a frequent visitor, said, “I’m here like every other day for the tacos. This parking lot is always full.”

Jesse Chester, who lives nearby, reported hearing the shooting. He expressed concerns about the neighborhood, saying, “This area is going in a negative way.”

An analysis of six months’ worth of crime reports from the Houston Police Department revealed another homicide in the area in January. Frequent visitors to the neighborhood expressed their unease following the recent shooting.

“That’s concerning,” said Jefreshia Bell. “I’m in this area quite often, so that’s super concerning.”
