Grieving parents ask for answers after son found dead in Buffalo Bayou: ‘He didn’t deserve that’

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Grieving parents are seeking the public’s help to uncover the truth after their 22-year-old son’s body was found in Buffalo Bayou on Monday.

The body of Kenneth Cutting Jr. was discovered near Swiney Street in the Fifth Ward.

Kenneth Cutting Sr. and Tiffanie Bruno, his parents, reported that Cutting Jr. went to Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar on Friday night with his two roommates. They left the bar around midnight.

Around 2 a.m., Cutting Sr. received a text from one of his son’s roommates, stating that Cutting Jr. had become excessively drunk and “went berserk,” starting verbal and physical altercations before jumping out of their car on I-10 East near Waco Street.

According to the text, Cutting Jr. ran toward oncoming traffic on I-10, leaving his phone and wallet in the car. The family met with Cutting Jr.’s roommates and filed a missing persons report on Saturday morning. His body was discovered three days later.

“My son didn’t jump in the bayou,” Bruno insisted.

Cutting Sr. noted that when his son’s body was recovered, he was only wearing pants, undergarments, a belt, and one earring. His shoes, shirt, the other earring, and Apple Watch were missing.

Houston police closed Cutting Jr.’s missing persons case after his body was found. They are not currently investigating, but a public information officer told ABC13 that an investigator would be assigned if an autopsy reveals signs of foul play.

“I want to find out exactly what happened to my son,” said Cutting Sr.

Bruno described her son, who was 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 120 pounds, as having a “beautiful spirit.”

“(He was) really fun to be around. He’s just very loving. He’s got a heart of gold. He’s beautiful,” she said. “He didn’t deserve that.”
