PML-N leaders show concern at Nawaz’s health

LAHORE: The Sharif family members and some PML-N leaders on Thursday visited the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Kot Lakhpat jail here.

The PML-N leaders warned the government that if anything happened to the imprisoned ex-premier the people would be on roads.

Those who visited Mr Sharif included his daughter Maryam Nawaz, his mother Shamim Akhtar, son-in-law retired Capt Safdar, ex-information minister Pervaiz Rashid, ex-ministers Khurram Dastgir and Talal Chaudhry. The visitors inquired after Mr Sharif.

Talking to them, Nawaz Sharif reportedly expressed his concern over the killing of innocent people in the Sahiwal incident and said he wanted justice for the victim family. He said he was in high spirits but he was not feeling completely well.

During the leaders visit, a good number of PML-N workers gathered outside the jail and chanted slogans in favour of their leader.

Later, talking to reporters outside the jail, Mr Dastgir said Mr Sharif was not being properly taken care of by the jail authorities. If anything happened to him (Nawaz) the masses would be on the roads, he warned.

Home dept decides to form another medical board

“We demand that Nawaz Sharif should be provided best healthcare facilities,” he said.

Talal Chaudhry said the PTI government should show humanity in Mr Sharif’s case. “We do not see humanity on the part of the PTI government, whether it is Sahiwal tragedy or the health of Nawaz Sharif,” he said.

He said the whole nation was worried about the health condition of Mr Sharif.

Meanwhile, the Punjab home department has decided to constitute another medical board to examine Nawaz Sharif.

Two separate special medical boards; one from the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and the other from the Allama Iqbal Medical College/Jinnah Hospital, have already examined the former premier. The Jinnah Hospital board’s report has recommended his treatment at hospital for ‘optimal management’.

Mr Sharif is serving seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case (in Kot Lakhpat jail).

On Thursday, the PIC issued the report of the tests of Mr Sharif conducted on Tuesday last. The PIC report says: “After evaluation of TROP-I report, investigations echocardioghraphy and stress thallium scan tests were done (on Jan 22). Echcardiography report showed good biventricular systolic function. He also had myocardial perfusion scanon the same day and it showed ‘moderate inferolateralpartially reversible perfusiondefect.’

In the light of these report, the PIC doctors recommended previous medical treatment should continue and a larger special medical board be constituted comprising senior cardiologists including clinical electrophysiologist of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology and Punjab Institute of Cardiology, to plan further management of the patient.
