Traffic warden shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A traffic warden was shot dead when he tried to stop dacoits at Bhana Mari Chowk area of the city on Friday, police said.

The incident took place in the limits of Bhana Mari police station when unidentified attackers opened fire on traffic warden Ajmeer Shah, who was on duty at the spot.

Chief traffic officer Kashif Zulfiqar told this scribe that the cop chased the dacoits in the bazaar.

He said that Mr Shah chased them on a rickshaw and tried to grab one in the rear and after a brief altercation the dacoits shot him in the chest and leg. “It is not an incident of terrorism,” he said.

Funeral prayers for the slain cop were offered at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in the afternoon, which was attended by senior police officers and other officials.
