NJHP resumes generation

ISLAMABAD: Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project (NJHP) resumed generation on Saturday after it was closed on Jan 5 for scheduled maintenance during the low water flow period in the Neelum river.

Spokesperson for the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) said the inspection of plant on depressurisation of tailrace revealed that civil, electrical and mechanical works were in good quality while adding that minor repairs were carried out on the 3.5km underground tailrace, draft tubes, bonnet gates, the main inlet valves and generating units along with the auxiliary equipment.

He said that during inspection, the spillway and debris channel gates of the dam structure were also tested at full operational level of the reservoir which functioned satisfactorily.

The NJHP is expected to achieve annual production of 4.6 billion units during 2019-2020 generating revenue of Rs50bn. Since it was successfully commissioned on Aug 14, 2018 the NJHP has added over 1.8bn units to the national grid.
