India, Pakistan have to get rid of chronic poverty, ignorance and disease: Manmohan

Former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh on Friday expressed the hope that Pakistan and India will get back to focus on economic development which he said is the basic requirement of both the countries.

“Our country is grappling with another crisis of mad rush of self destruction,” he was quoted by Indian media as saying at an event.

“Our basic problem is to get rid of chronic poverty, ignorance and disease which still afflicts millions and millions of citizens in our two countries,” said the Congress leader.

He also expressed the hope that better sense  will prevail between the leadership of the two countries and they  will get back to economic development which is the basic requirement of both India and Pakistan
