Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Houston until 3 p.m.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Rain chances are on the rise today as a disturbance rolls through the area. Most of the area should see rain as we head into the late morning to early afternoon hours. Some storms could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes possible along the front edge. Isolated large hail cannot be ruled out.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Houston-area including Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties until 3 p.m.

Storms are already moving into our western counties this morning and will continue to move into our area heading into the afternoon. The line of storms should reach Houston around noon. Scattered storms could continue into the evening.

Most neighborhoods will receive 1-3″ of rain, with isolated areas getting between 4-6″. Street flooding will be the most likely impact. While bayous, creeks, and rivers may rise, they are currently expected to stay within their banks.
