A Buc-ee’s sign was spotted in the Middle East

Earlier this year Buc-ee’s debuted its first location outside of Texas, in Robertsdale, Ala. to much fanfare. Little did we know the next place the famous beaver would be spotted: Amman, Jordan.

Maurice Chammah, a writer for the The Marshall Project — a nonprofit newsroom covering America’s criminal justice system — pulled over when he saw the famous beaver cartoon splashed on a roadside sign in the capital city.

“I was driving on a highway north of Amman, Jordan, and found a…Buc-ee’s. Or at least, a place claiming to be Buc-ee’s,” he wrote on Twitter. “I have so many questions.”

Chammah added that Emily Chammah, who photographed the sign, translated some of the words on the sign: “market,””coffee,” and “snacks.”

“Moajabat,” means hand pies…which is not NOT a kolache,” Maurice Chammah quips.

Arch “Beaver” Aplin III responded to Texas Monthly editor Eric Benson, saying: “That beats all. Unbelievable.”

While it’s doubtful this outpost is a legitimate Buc-ee’s location, given that the founder was unaware of its curious address, it’s still pretty impressive that the chain — founded in Lake Jackson in 1982 — was able to make a splash thousands of miles away.

We have so many questions: Do they sell Beaver Nuggets? Are their rest-stop bathrooms as sought after as the US locations? How do you say Buc-ee’s Jerky in Arabic?

We’ve put in a call to Buc-ee’s and will update this space with any new information is it becomes available.
