‘PTI not weakening any institution’

LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has said any reference filed against judges will be dealt as per Constitution and under legal parameters.

“The PTI has no authority to give judgment or verdict in such references as Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will decide the fate of such references,” the governor said to journalists on Thursday.

Pir Syed Nazim Hussain Shah was also present.

The governor said there should be no doubt the verdict against any reference would be purely on merit and on legal grounds and added the SJC was only forum to decide about these references, not the PTI or the government.

“We can’t even think of weakening any institution, including the Supreme Court, as we are following the policy to strengthen the institutions,” the governor said and added that law would always act against those, who violate the constitution and law.

About MNA Mohsin Dawar’s arrest, the governor said the PTI government did not believe in victimization of any person but everyone living in Pakistan must abide by its laws and no one be allowed to break the laws or perform illegal actions. “The law will act against law breakers and all measures will be taken to ensure peace and stability,” he said.

The governor said Pakistan was ready to help and settle the conflict between Iran and the US. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan had international political stature and was willing to settle issues between Iran and Saudi Arabia and Iran and USA and for which concrete efforts were being made.

Earlier, Australian High commissioner Margaret Adamson called on Mr Sarwar at Governor’s House to pay her farewell visit. Both talked about Aus-Pak relations, business opportunities and other issues of common interest.

Dr Sarah Arif from King Edward Medical University, who secured 15 medals, also called on him. The governor presented a Rs100,000 cheque to her for her outstanding academic performance.
