Police have identified a man they say raped and murdered an 11-year-old girl in Fort Worth, bringing closure to a case that has tormented family and investigators for 36 years.
James Francis McNichols was identified as Julie Fuller’s killer using DNA technology, Fort Worth police said Friday. He is believed to have abducted the girl from an Arlington motel in 1983 but won’t face justice: He died in 2004.

“Honestly, we’re glad he’s dead,” Julie’s older brother, Lee Fuller, told KDFW-TV (Fox 4), saying his parents would have found it too painful to confront the murderer at trial.
