In Houston, Texas, when you hear about the 2024 RodeoHouston artist Major Lazer, don’t expect a lone military officer spinning tracks on the iconic star-shaped stage.
Major Lazer, a trio renowned for their energy, vibes, and commitment to peace, will bring their unique blend of Jamaican dancehall-inspired electronic music to NRG Stadium on Friday, March 8.
The platinum-certified group consists of well-known producers Diplo, Walshy Fire, and Ape Drums, a proud native of Houston.
Ahead of their performance, Eyewitness News caught up with Ape Drums to discuss his memories of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, his favorite rodeo food, the importance of blending country and non-country genres at the event, and what non-Major Lazer fans can expect and enjoy. He also shared insights on potential collaborations with other artists on the 2024 rodeo lineup.
Ape Drums highlighted the group’s efforts to pay homage to Houston culture during their performance. “We’re going to try our best to show our appreciation for Houston culture. We’re going to play music that Houstonians definitely will know,” he expressed.
