HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A 44-year-old man was shot in the upper torso by a deputy in northwest Harris County on Sunday, as confirmed by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The incident occurred when officers responded to a welfare check call in the 9600 block of Halkirk just before 7 p.m.
According to deputies, the man became agitated and held a gun to his head. Deputies then contacted him via cell phone.
Officials reported that the man eventually came outside with a shotgun. Despite being ordered to drop the weapon, shots were fired by a 37-year-old deputy, who has been with the agency for five years.
The deputy, who has no reported injuries, will be placed on administrative leave. The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
