Coastal storm surge danger among Houston-area closures amid torrential rains

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — forecasts torrential rain waves for Weather Alert Days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The weather team believes coastal areas will see most of the impact from wind and storm surge from Potential Storm 1 in the Gulf.

Coastal Brazoria County is among the areas of concern. Officials said on Tuesday that they are closing access to the county beach at 5 p.m.

“Currently, the tide is all the way or pretty close to the dunes, so we are moving to close,” Brazoria County public information officer Sharon Trower said.

Trower told that all beaches, including Surfside, across the 23-mile stretch of county coastline would close due to dangerous rip currents, high tide, and gusty winds. Wave run-up is also high.

Elsewhere, the Texas City Office of Emergency Management is scheduling a 7 p.m. closure of the Texas City Dike until further notice.
