Severe storm risk early Wednesday, then sunny and windy

A strong storm system will bring showers and thunderstorms to North Texas overnight through late morning Wednesday. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be in effect until 5 a.m. for parts of North Texas. The main threat will be damaging winds, large hail and a brief tornado or two will be possible. Make sure you have a way to receive weather warnings such as a weather radio or a smartphone. For DFW, the most likely time frame for storms is 3 am to 6 am.

The showers and storms will move off to the east by early Wednesday leaving a dry, very windy and cooler day with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Winds could gust up to 40 mph during the day Wednesday. With the dry and windy conditions there is an elevated risk for grass fires.

The remainder of spring break week will be dry Thursday through the weekend. A new shot at showers and storms will arrive early next week.
