Witnesses: Car pinned, dragged by 18-wheeler before going over bridge

Two drivers managed to escape unharmed after an 18-wheeler collided with another car on a Dallas bridge, causing it to plunge into the river below with the driver still inside.

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, the incident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. along the 9800 – 9900 block of Walton Walker Freeway.

Urbano Cepeda and Kevin Torres, who frequently fish in the Trinity River area, recounted hearing a scraping noise while standing near their vehicles. They looked over to see the 18-wheeler truck pinning a car against the bridge’s edge, dragging it for several yards before it fell into the water.

Both men hurried to the river to assist. Upon arrival, they found the driver already out of the submerged car, and they helped him out of the water.

While the driver appeared to be injured on his stomach, he remained conscious and responsive, walking and conversing with others.

Describing the driver’s survival as miraculous, both witnesses expressed relief at the fortunate outcome.

Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed that no individuals required transportation to medical facilities as a result of the accident.

The Dallas Sheriff’s Office reported the closure of the highway’s right lane to facilitate the arrival of a heavy-duty wrecker for the 18-wheeler’s removal. Additionally, a crane was employed to retrieve the submerged gray Genesis from the water.

Fortunately, neither driver sustained injuries, and the highway was reopened by 12:02 p.m.

While the 18-wheeler’s collision with the Genesis resulted in the latter ending up in the river, authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
