NFL Network cuts ties with Cowboys legend Michael Irvin, reports say

Recent changes at NFL Network have included significant shifts in both on-air talent and programming. Reports suggest that the network has parted ways with Michael Irvin, a former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer, and has canceled “NFL Total Access,” one of its longest-running and most popular shows after more than two decades.

These changes come amidst a broader trend of layoffs and cutbacks at NFL Network over the past few months. Alex Riethmille, Vice President of Communications at NFL Network, explained that the network routinely evaluates its talent roster for each upcoming season and makes decisions based on programming needs, resulting in renewals, non-renewals, and additions to the lineup.

Irvin, 58, joined NFL Network as an analyst in 2009. However, in February 2023, he was suspended from the network’s Super Bowl week coverage following allegations of inappropriate behavior made by a woman working at a Marriott hotel in Phoenix. She claimed that Irvin made a sexually inappropriate comment, engaged in unwanted physical contact by touching her arms, and made a statement indicating he would seek her out later in the week. Irvin filed a defamation lawsuit against Marriott International Inc., six other parties, and the accuser, seeking $100 million in damages. The lawsuit was settled in September, allowing Irvin to return to broadcasting on NFL Network for the 2023 football season.
