A Houston police officer died during a domestic disturbance after he was shot in the chest Saturday, despite wearing a bulletproof vest.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted around 6:40 p.m. seeking prayers after one of his officers was shot in the 7400 block of Avenue I in the southeastern part of the city.
Officers found a man and woman fighting in the street, the Houston Chronicle reported. At some point, shots were fired and the man fled.
One of our @houstonpolice officers has been shot please pray. On way to scene now.
He was quickly captured by police, the newspaper reported. His name has not been released.
The officer, who hasn’t been identified, died at Memorial Hermann Hospital after CPR was performed at the scene, the Chronicle reported.
At least one bullet penetrated his bulletproof vest, according to the Chronicle.
A fellow officer described him as “someone I’d happily ride with any day of the week,” the Chronicle reported
