Intoxicated Audi driver kills woman on sidewalk in Oak Lawn, Dallas police say

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver in Oak Lawn on Tuesday morning, Dallas police say.

Officers arrived about 10:50 a.m. shortly after the crash in the 4500 block of Avondale Avenue, near Turtle Creek Boulevard.

According to police, the driver was headed east on Avondale when he lost control of his black Audi sedan and veered onto the sidewalk, striking the victim. The car also knocked over a light pole.

The victim, 72-year-old Nancy Dennington, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police said the driver, a 30-year-old man, would be charged with intoxication manslaughter. His name was not released.
