Jose Sifuentes, 42, was taken into custody in Mexico’s Nuevo Leon state in April and ultimately extradited to Dallas, where he arrived Wednesday.

Sifuentes had originally been arrested in 2003 in connection with a murder that year, but posted bond and fled to Mexico. While he was on the run, authorities found that his DNA connected him to two cold-case killings from 1998.

In 2016, Dallas police, along with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, applied with the U.S. Department of Justice for permission to seek Sifuentes in other jurisdictions.

Sifuentes, at that point also wanted to federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, was located in the city of San Vicente de Gonzalez.

Authorities have not yet provided any details about the murders to which Sifuentes is believed to be linked.

Fugitive Jose Sifuentes, captured last April in Mexico, is transferred to the custody of Dallas authorities in a photo provided by Dallas police.
